New computer and power upgrades have been completed in support of longer Illumina sequence runs

We are excited at the latest upgrades to our GAIIX system!

There has been some downtime for our Illumina server, but we have now completed two major upgrades:

1) An additional shelf with 12 Terabytes of disk space that will allow for longer paired-end reads, and quicker analysis. This $10,000 upgrade is now sufficient along with new software and sequencing reagent upgrades to support 108bp paired-end reads which are now offered as a part of our service.

2) A new large capacity 5000va UPS system has been installed that will maintain the Illumina server for up to an hour in the event of a power failure.  This $6,000 enhancement will greatly decrease the probability that power interruptions will cause any loss of data.  Our GAIIX instrument also has a UPS sufficient to maintain the instrument in the event of power interruptions.
